Ilaiyaraaja goes crazy with his electronic, pop and disco songs. I am planning to feature some of the electronic/pop/disco songs that he composed from the past. Of course, most of the songs will be rare. Some of the songs are featured in the Finders Keepers collection of Ilaiyaraaja Songs – The first one is from Nallathoru Kudumbam that was composed as a fight between Cha Cha Cha and Bharatham. Although Sivaji doesn’t dance Baratham (you have to believe he does), the song is a heady mix of cha cha cha rhythm, electronic pop orchestration and South Indian classical.

The song sequence was inspired by a similar sequence from the movie Shalimar – RD Burman has a similar composition that is quite popular in Bollywood. But Raaja’s composition is heights of craziness, and you can get the vibe when he starts with a Veena prelude.

Song One and Two Cha Cha Cha
Movie Nallathoru Kudumbam (1978)
Director K Vijayan
Singers LR Easwari, TM Soundararajan
Actors Sivaji Ganesan, Bindu
Lyricist Kannadasan
